Volusia County Schools - Prototype Middle School
Hall & Ogle was selected by Volusia County Schools to design and implement a prototype middle school to be used as the model for several new schools to be built. The first school built from this prototype was Galaxy Middle School, followed by Heritage Middle School, Creekside Middle School, David C. Hinson Sr. Middle School, River Springs Middle School and Campbell Middle School Replacement.
The prototype provided Volusia County Schools with a design that not only met the VCSB educational specifications but also provided the flexibility to easily facilitate revisions and updates of VCSB requirements.
The 165,000 square foot campus is designed to provide self-contained "houses" for each grade level. The campus design is organized around a central commons area that provides for control of student circulation and creates a focal point for student activity.
Architectural form, details and materials combined with the plan form of the campus create and educational facility that provides a strong sense of place and positive identity for the faculty, student body and community.
